Creative Bulletin n.237
My mountain retreat is nearly over: tomorrow, I’ll be back in Turin, and I’m already diving into the projects I had on hold. 💪 On the left, you can see a draft of the new branding product, and on the right, a glimpse of the one for language learning.
This year is going to be all about launches. I’ve decided to focus on new products, new manuals, and fresh ideas. I want to get as hands-on as possible—creating new tools, launching them, and getting them out there. 🚀
So, what’s the secret to creativity? It’s not about having countless ideas or even just ideas we love. Creativity is action; it’s about moving outward and bringing those ideas to life.
I was stuck on the branding project, tangled up in endless thoughts. What if we did it this way? Or took it in a different direction? What if, what if, what if… I was entirely in my head, reflecting, expanding my mind, twisting it around—and getting absolutely nowhere!
Finally, I sat down at the computer and tried to experience using the branding product myself. How do I analyze Sefirot’s brand? How do I enhance it? How do I assess the competition?
To my embarrassment, I realized all the aspects that seemed to work in my head didn’t hold up in reality. But I also discovered what I truly needed.
You can’t stay in your head. You have to have the courage to act, which means being willing to try and fail.
🌈 Creative takeaway: creativity is about the experience
The novel isn’t the novel; it’s the act of writing it. The painting is the act of painting. The project is the act of designing. We need to come down to earth, get the energy flowing, create, undo, build, destroy, laugh, and despair. Maybe we create a mess (it happens often 😂) and throw it away, or we use it as a foundation for something else—but at least we’ve had the experience.
The experience of being writers, painters, designers, creatives.
That’s what creativity is all about.
