Creative Bulletin n.279

The other day I had a chat with a dear friend of mine about our respective businesses and, to put it elegantly, we’re all sailing through some very rough waters 😅

When the old world crumbles. The pillars on which my friend and I built our companies are becoming unstable. I suppose it’s just history repeating itself: systems and technologies that work one year might not work the next. We have to keep evolving.

It’s anxiety-inducing because we don’t really know where to focus our attention: should we try to keep the old pillars standing as long as they hold? Or should we shift our energy toward something new, even if we’re not sure it will work as well?

Seeing reality differently. After half an hour of venting, my friend and I burst out laughing. “You know what?” I said to him, “Deep down, I’m actually glad everything’s falling apart. When things were going well, we were getting complacent. This gave us a solid kick in the ass.”

Now we’re working on something we’ve had in mind for a long time, but kept postponing out of laziness. And I’m genuinely grateful that this opportunity has shown up—because this new project will make us even more independent!

🌈 Creative takeaway: let’s not get distracted by small disappointments.

Small disappointments can creep in every day, especially during tough times (which is exactly why my friend and I schedule these venting sessions outside each other’s homes). Let’s not get too sidetracked. Let’s define a plan and stick to it with discipline—otherwise, things really can fall apart.
