Creative Bulletin n.306

The other day, with friends and colleagues, we were talking about what’s working on Instagram, which strategies to adopt, how many reels to post, and the big, endless complaint about how much we’ve all become slaves to that platform.

At one point I said: “We’re all skilled creatives here. And by now we know exactly what needs to be done to grow a profile. The real question is whether we actually have it in us to do it.”

Courage. After saying those words, I went home and started reflecting: is it really a matter of wanting to?

I believe it’s actually a matter of courage.

It takes courage to admit that, right now, these online platforms are the only channels we have and that, for most independent creatives, building a community on Instagram has become an integral part of the job.

It takes courage to accept that this is the reality, not some other one, and to roll up our sleeves and write, post, and edit one reel a day; or, alternatively, the courage not to do it and to look for another path.

🌈 Creative takeaway: the courage to make the right choice for ourselves

Sometimes I catch myself saying: “I can’t spend this much time producing videos for online channels.” And what would the alternative be? Going door to door to sell my products? Haha. It’s like an emerging painter saying they don’t want to waste time bringing their work to independent exhibitions.

Frustrations and prejudices keep us from seeing things clearly: the medium feels beneath us, and the risk of an embarrassing failure feels too high.

But if we looked at ourselves from the outside, as professionals, what would we advise? If Sefirot were my client, what would I believe to be the right thing to do? I wouldn’t hesitate: Instagram videos 😅

We need to find the courage to stay clear-headed and to do what truly makes sense for us.
