Creative Bulletin n.314
Last week I had a day of discouragement.
I couldn’t get out of a vicious circle of thoughts: it’s harder than before, those strategies don’t work as well anymore, the idea we had on Monday that seemed brilliant by Thursday had already turned into a disaster, and I’m tired, and I’m anxious, and there’s a ton of things to do, and so on 😅
Resistance. The feeling reminded me of “resistance,” when someone tries to point something out to us and we don’t want to see it, so we start fighting to be right, defending our point of view with a barrage of words. In that moment, if we pay attention, we can realize that being right is of no use to us, and that it’s simply a way of not seeing.
When we decide to pull the cord on the curtain, things usually get better, the play ends, and we feel less tired.
Resistance to reality. At a certain point I realized that even inside my discouragement the other day there was a little cord. I too was desperately trying to fight to be right, not with another person, but with myself. I was convincing myself that the only possible path was to be anxious, agitated, and to fight against a reality that seemed to be pushing back at me.
🌈 Creative takeaway: shifting attention
We can’t change what’s out there, we can only change our perspective. Then what happens to us can become a lesson, or a sign pointing us toward a new path. It doesn’t make much sense to fight what is happening, as much as to see that this is how things are, and then act in harmony with events.
Years ago, when Fabula seemed like a project destined to die because the biggest Italian publishing house told us no, that was the beginning of my great adventure with Sefirot. The fact that nobody wanted our products pushed me to start a company.
What you see above in the photo is my sourdough bread. I don’t fight the bacteria, I don’t try to change them or make them go faster if I’m in a hurry, because the result would be awful. I work with what they do, with the outside temperature, with the humidity of the dough. Sometimes I leave the house later.
Then, at the right moment, I bake it.
With ❤️,
Matteo
