Creative Bulletin n.268

As promised, we’ve organized a class to give you an idea of how to use Fabula for Non-Fiction to write essays, manuals, articles, and so on (and yes—for anyone who can’t make it, we’ll be sharing a recording!)

Balance in creativity. Lately, we’ve been running into a series of external factors that would make even the calmest person on Earth lose their cool. Years ago, in a newsletter, I heroically claimed that every now and then, throwing a chair across the room was perfectly acceptable 😂 but now I’m not so sure anymore.
These past few days, I’ve been tempted more than once to just give in to the frustration and throw a fit. Then I asked myself: first, who am I even supposed to be mad at? Haha. And second: who’s going to give me back all that energy I’d waste on yelling?
I’m not saying we should never get angry—let’s not go that far, especially since bottling it all up just makes us explode—but in the creative realm, it’s often worth trying to look at what’s happening from a higher vantage point.
Okay, that thing we were working on doesn’t work anymore. Okay, Plan B isn’t looking as promising as we’d hoped. Okay, another four or five things are going poorly and are out of our control.
We could rage about it, sure—but what for? Maybe the universe is telling us that it really is time to try a different path 😅
🌈 Creative takeaway: choose wisely where to invest your energy
When I was younger, I acted like my energy tank was infinite. Now I realize no one’s going to give me back that day I spent angrily complaining—let alone the day after, when I was struggling to get my focus back.
This week, I tried not to get too upset, and it let me dive straight into something that actually made me feel good. The book’s not getting published? Better to get back to writing something we truly enjoy. The project’s not working? Better to spend our time on an alternative—or improving it.
In short: let’s remember that our resources aren’t unlimited. Let’s use them wisely ❤️
With love,
Matteo
