Creative Bulletin n.298

This week I organized a team dinner to spend some time together, celebrate, laugh, and have some fun. We went to one of my go-to Chinese spots and, as usual, we got so caught up in goofing around that no one remembered to take a photo (the one above is my favorite Chinese dish, AI-generated šŸ˜…)

Celebrating. Every now and then I ask myself why I put so much effort into the company and my projects. Sure, it’s because I want to express myself, because I want to bring something useful into the world, because I enjoy it. But also, more simply, to feel good and to make the people who work with me feel good—to be able to treat them to dinner when we all happen to be in the same city.

On Sunday, during the creativity course I was teaching, I actually encouraged one of the participants to go out and celebrate more often with the people she loves. Even without a specific reason—just to remind herself why she works so hard every day.

Losing sight of priorities. Yesterday, I got hit by a strange kind of sadness: I knew exactly what needed to be done—Black Friday offers, new courses, etc.—but… I just didn’t want to. Haha. There’s this side of me, a bit snobbish and somewhat idealistic, that pops up now and then and would rather let everything fall apart than stoop to putting out promotions.

🌈 Creative takeaway: stop overthinking and just do what needs to be done

Otherwise, how could I celebrate with my team? How could I keep spreading my products? How could I help those who need it?
I think we creatives sometimes get caught up in this kind of snobbery (or purism). Well, it’s time to let it go. The world needs our creativity.
So let’s roll up our sleeves and do what needs to be done ā¤ļø

With love,
Matteo
