Creative Bulletin n.303

Creative Bulletin n.303

Yesterday we went out for a Christmas aperitivo (the photo is from dinner afterwards, because once again we forgot to take one with our glasses in hand). As usual, I organized it too late and half the team had already left for the holidays. Next year I’ll do it in January 😅

What I’m looking for. Over the past few days I’ve been thinking, again, about how to communicate on social media (Instagram’s organic reach keeps chasing me). How do I share what I care about? Through which formats? And why? But more than anything… what is my message, really?

There are publishers who don’t read what they publish, consultants who would never recommend to a family member what they sell to their clients, teachers who teach things they don’t actually practice.

I was reading a book the other day and at some point I realized the author was listing technique after technique, but never once explained how any of it showed up in his own life. Did he ever use them? That’s what I wanted to know. That’s what would have mattered to me.

I want authenticity. I want to teach people how to express themselves, yes, but not as an intellectual exercise. Would you hang your own painting on the wall? Would you buy your own novel? Would you sit down and watch your own film? That, to me, matters more than any method, framework, or motivational line we can repeat endlessly. Are we actually authentic in what we do?

🌈 Creative takeaway: being strict, being clear

This year I realized I’ve been too soft. Too often I didn’t take a position because I was afraid of being too much. I tried to accommodate, I smoothed things over, I let things go.
I don’t think that helps anyone. I won’t say we should ask more of ourselves, because “more” doesn’t mean much. What we should do is ask ourselves fully of ourselves. Show up whole. Not be half-present in what we do, not love halfway, not experiment with our left hand.
That’s what I want to communicate.
And yes, it takes a good dose of strictness and a strong sense of reality.
We need to be able to tell ourselves: hey, you’ve only put one foot in. Where do you think you’re going? Step in completely. Jump. Go all the way. Or it’s just an idea, a rehearsal.
Otherwise, how could we really express ourselves?

With ❤️,
Matteo
