Creative Bulletin n.309

This is one of the illustrations from the new creativity manual. I’m almost halfway through it: laying it out is the most fun part of my day ❤️ In a few weeks it will be ready for anyone who’d like to apply as a beta reader.
The intùiti evenings are moving along. There’s been a good turnout for the group intùiti sessions on Zoom, and I’ll try to keep running them every two weeks. For anyone who’d like to join, you can find all the information here >> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1b8dfjXekU1IbnWd5PpTy5f7_Yc9rJPkF7-sccv3gSVA/edit?usp=sharing
Boredom and creativity. From time to time, a sense of restlessness shows up in creative work. It happened to me this week: I’d grown used to a certain style, a graphic mark, a way of doing things, and then all of a sudden they started to get on my nerves. I no longer found them as pleasant, or functional, or right. In short, they didn’t convince me anymore.
When that happens, it’s a struggle, because one part of us is rebelling against what we already know and trust, while the other doesn’t want to let go and grumbles: “Oh come on, stop it, at least this way we’re playing it safe.”
🌈 Creative takeaway: the voice that helps us grow
You’re not creative just once. First you break the blank page, then you have to start breaking the very rules you created yourself, your patterns, the automatisms you’ve grown attached to. Creativity is a journey that never ends.
It doesn’t mean tearing everything down every time (or you end up doing nothing 😅), but listening to our rebellious voice, the restless one, and letting it speak.
Most of the time, it’s precisely that voice that shows us a new path.
With ❤️,
Matteo
