Creative Bulletin n.313

I found the cover I love ❤️ And the best part is that, flipping back through the notebooks I had with me in Porto six months ago, I realized one of the drafts actually looks a lot like it. I made it in the garden of the Serralves Foundation, a magical place.
The conflict. Yesterday I saw a post from an established writer who was “complaining” that so many first-time authors are obsessed with money: how much they’ll make from a book, what percentage they’ll get, and so on, instead of thinking about the quality of their writing.
Haha. I got a little fired up and recorded a video about the exact opposite: that money does matter for a creative person. You need a way to support yourself, otherwise how are you supposed to keep doing what you do? 😅
But then… what’s the point, really? This morning I went back to my Mario novel series, which I’m definitely not writing for the money, and it filled me up so much that I caught myself thinking: “Wait. Maybe that writer was right?”
And then: “Do you really have to pick a side?”
🌈 Creative takeaway: stay where you feel strongest
I’ve seen students in my courses light up when I explain business models and how to make money, because they needed someone to tell them, in practical terms: “Yes, it’s possible.” And I’ve also seen people find their connection to the Universe again after giving themselves permission to do what they love, even if it doesn’t earn them a single euro.
Sometimes the right road is one. Sometimes it’s the other.
Stay where you feel the most light, and the most strength.
With ❤️,
Matteo
